CA-Gov Candidate Meg Whitman Had an Undocumented Housekeeper?

| On 30, Sep 2010

California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman could be in hot water for employing an illegal housekeeper for nine years. Hmm.. She better wash her own dishes and call it a day.

The sh*t is hitting the fan in the race for California’s next governor.

Meg Whitman, the uber-rich Republican candidate for California governor and former Ebay CEO, is now fighting back charges that the housekeeper she employed for nine years is an undocumented immigrant. WTF?!

[Cue the dramatics]

Nicky Diaz Santillan had a press conference with none other than power-attorney Gloria Allred. This is the same lawyer who represented two of the alleged jump-offs of Tiger Woods last year. Anyway, Santillan cried during the presser saying that Whitman owes her back wages and she felt “like a piece of garbage” when given boot. Really Nicky? She also says that Whitman wouldn’t help her with her legal status.

Whitman claims she had no idea that Santillan was not a legal citizen because she used her sister’s social security number to gain employment. An agency referred the housekeeper to Whitman’s residence. Think of it like a temp agency, of sorts.

In a state like California where Latinos are now 21% of the electorate, they have a pretty powerful voice in elections like this one. And trust me, this info WILL. NOT. SIT. WELL with some of them. Whitman has been complaining in her campaign that she doesn’t support the controversial SB 1070 law in Arizona. She says the system needs to be overhauled. Yet, she’s had an illegal worker for nine years. I bet.

Whitman’s camp is blaming the Democratic candidate Jerry Brown for muck-raking. Even if he did, he’s doing a great job of it. Meanwhile, Whitman is trying to put out fires with Spanish-language commercials about a plan for jobs to divert attention from this juicy info.

We’ll see how this one plays out!
