David Paterson Will Not Seek Re-Election in NY

Seems like the ISH has hit the fan in New York amid some breaking scandal!
The state’s governor, David Paterson, announced today that he will NOT seek re-election later this year. The New York Times revealed that Paterson and the New York State Police possibly intervened in a domestic violence case involving one of Paterson’s aides and his battery charges. That’s a big no-no when you’re trying to get the justice system hook-up for your employees!
Even with his already low approval rating before this scandal, Big Dave was looking forward to running for governor in the fall. If you remember, he replaced former Governor Eliot Spitzer in January 2008 after Spitzer was caught buying hookers in Washington, D.C. When Spitzer resigned, Paterson was appointed to serve out the rest of Spitzer’s term. He was a standout both as an African-American leading the state of New York and being blind. Paterson hoped to be elected to a full term in November. Umm .. NOT HARDLY after this news leaked out!!
This development blows open the gate for NY State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to run on the Democratic side. Former Rep. Rick Lazio will hold up the Republican end of things in his already-launched campaign.
I don’t live in New York, but I never got the feeling that people supported D-Pat like that anyway. I remember hearing shortly after Spitzer left office that there could be some women involved in Paterson’s life, but nothing ever became of it. It’s all strange how he came into and is now falling out of power…
