Michelle Obama Makes Surprise Haiti Visit

First Lady Michelle Obama made a surprise stop in earthquake-torn Haiti on her way to Mexico today.
Mi-Mi and the vice president’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, participated in a flyover tour of the capital city, Port-au-Prince. Haiti’s capital took the brunt of the damage from the January 12 earthquake.
Obama and Biden also met with Haitian President Rene Preval and his wife at the National Palace, which also sustained severe damage in the quake. They visited a play area for children who live at an outdoor camp. The children sang to Mrs. Obama and she danced with them. Despite the grand nature of her personality, she showed that sometimes it’s the littlest of things that matters.
FLOTUS thanked the aid workers who have helped over the past three months. Ironically, one of our own PJM readers, who shall remain nameless unless they wish to be identified, was able to meet Mrs. Obama today in Haiti. This person is serving in the medical relief effort for the next two weeks. Great service!
Mi-Mi will spend the next three days in Mexico for her ongoing work with children.
