Mo-Bama Gets In The Grocery Industry’s Ass!

Michelle Obama is committed to healthy children and she’s here to let the grocery industry know she is NOT playing!
The First Lady spoke to the Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA) conference in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. This was yet another appearance for her “Let’s Move” initiative she announced earlier this year.
The message was simple. Quit fattening our kids and Biggie-sizing our people! Do more to promote healthy eating and marketing healthy products to parents and kids. This is not just about labeling. REVAMP YOUR PRODUCTS!! Cut out the salt, sugar, and excess fat. Carrots won’t kill us, but french fries will!!! We need more real grocery stores that sell fresh products in low-income communities (liquor, lotto, candy, and cheap cell service don’t count!) Either you’re with Mi-Mi or you’re against Mi-Mi!!
Pardon my PJM-emphasis, but you get my point!
This is not a light subject for FLOTUS, though. She is urging everyone to get involved in this “Let’s Move” campaign – from mayors, schools, teachers, governors, and the like. The GMA is pleased with her outreach and lack of finger-pointing. A few of their 300 member companies have already committed to some marketing changes. Still, she wants to see more change NOW because kids lives are at risk.
I applaud the first lady for taking on this enormous (no pun intended) issue. I’m a full-grown adult with a car who still finds it hard to eat healthy all the time. Our society is built around fast and unhealthy food. With time being so precious, it’s way too easy for me to grab a burger than it is a celery stick or a healthy dinner (other than just salad). We’ve gotta do better.
