Nay-Nay Pelosi Says NO-NO to the Public Option

Nancy Pelosi broke the bad news to reporters via a conference call earlier this week. Pigs will fly with chinchilla minks before we get a public option in healthcare in the United States.
The public option got slaughtered in the early stages of last year’s healthcare debate. The idea came back to life (kinda) as the Democrats have been figuring out a way to get healthcare legislation passed without the 60-vote majority. But, Nancy Pelosi reminded us this week that the public option is NOT on the table anymore. It will not be tacked onto any legislation, so don’t even TRY to look for it.
To her credit, Nay-Nay did support the public option and it passed in the House’s version of the legislation. The cowards in the Senate took the public option off the table. Now that Massachusetts gave up their Democratic Senate seat, we can really forget it.
This is the kind of stuff that pisses me off. These same Congress(wo)men are always talking about “47 million uninsured Americans blah .. blah … blah.” DO THEY REALLY CARE ABOUT THE UNINSURED??? I can’t tell. These fools couldn’t even pass a watered-down healthcare bill with 60 Senate votes. They are up against Republicans who are bankrolled by big insurance companies and special interests.
It’s sad that something as needed as the public option is done. I hope the same can be said for some of these weak a$$ Senators come November 2010!!
