Obama Jumps on the Economic “Love Train”

Never fear .. stimulus funds are here! On the heels of his State of the Union address, President Obama kissed the sky last Thursday en route to Tampa, Florida. He was there to talk “high-speed” rail with Floridians who are going to build a rail line between Tampa and Orlando.
The Obama Administration is throwing about $8 billion in grants at several rail projects across the U.S. Supporters are happy to see some type of economic and transportation activity happening in their area. It is supposed to create jobs and get you to park your gas-guzzling Buick every now and again!
Nay-sayers claim that, with the exception of proposed rail in California, none of the projects are truly “high-speed” (i.e., 200+ mph). They want Obama to only focus on the largest existing rail corridor between Boston, New York and Washington, D.C. and upgrading it to the high-speed category. This makes absolutely no sense to me. Are they supposed to throw all the money to the Northeast, and do what, flip the middle finger to the other 40-something states?! Not hardly. Hell, sitting in traffic no fun ANYWHERE in this country.
