Today in Washington, D.C., President Barack Obama signed the repeal of the military’s 17-year-old ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy that prevented gays and lesbians from serving the country openly.
This historic moment was attended by several members of Congress, as well as gay and lesbian service members and their supporters. Since its implementation in 1993, the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy caused the discharge of over 14,000 soldiers in the U.S. military.
It’s about damn time this thing was passed! Like the president said, history is going to look back on this and wonder why this was ever an issue for the American military.
