POTUS on Healthcare: “Let’s Get It Done.”
Matt | On 04, Mar 2010
POTUS has a lot on his to-do list. He’s trying to get healthcare off of that list. He finally gave the green light to Congress to quit pussyfootin’ around and get this ISH over and done with!
President Obama gave a speech on Wednesday in the East Room of the White House urging Congress to schedule a vote on the current healthcare bill. The Senate version of the healthcare bill needs the first vote, then it can go back to the House for additional tweaks (hopefully a public option) and a final vote. The president did not use the term “reconciliation” in his speech, which refers to the simple majority (51+ votes) that the Senate. However, he did call for an “up or down vote” on the issue. In short, the Democrats are going to use reconciliation to get this done. Yay God.
It’s about damn time to see the president out front on this issue!! It’s really sad that he has to go to these lengths to encourage Congress to do their jobs. The Republicans in Congress actually want to start the whole healthcare reform effort OVER AGAIN!! Are they serious? Like people aren’t going into bankruptcy and/or dying everyday because of this jacked up healthcare system?? Wow. We do not have time to sit here and have our wallets further RAPED by the health insurance companies.
Obama said it best at the beginning of his remarks .. “Everything there is to say about healthcare has been said and just about everybody has said it.” The room erupted in laughter. I guess we all have to laugh to keep from crying.
