The Quran Burning Is Off .. For Now

Can I lead us in a collective sigh of relief at this bit of good news today?
Rev. Terry Jones of Dove World International Outreach Center in Gainesville has said in a press conference today that he is canceling the “International Burn-A-Koran Day” he set for Saturday. The event was to be held on the ninth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. He appeared in today’s presser with Imam Muhammad Musri from the Islamic Society of Central Florida.
There are conflicting reports about exactly how and why Jones decided to nix the event. I really don’t care, but still it’s interesting. Jones says that he spoke with Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf in New York about moving the planned mosque that is to be built two blocks from the former site of the World Trade Center. Rauf is denying these claims of moving the mosque, though it has been reported that the two will meet in person on Saturday in New York.
Several high level officials, including President Obama, General David Petraeus, Secy. of State Hillary Clinton, and even the POPE had something to say about it. Ultimately, Defense Secretary Robert Gates placed a call directly to Jones and asked him not to burn the copies of the Islamic Holy word. There were several millions more people around the world that were ready to light that ass on fire if he LOOKED at a book of matches on Saturday.
Like I said in my original post, this whole controversy is some sh*t! Rev. Jones has inserted his “interpretation” of God’s Word when the Man on High is probably giving him a major *side-eye*. Jones says that because [he thinks] the Imam in New York has agreed to move the Ground Zero mosque, then that was a sign he should cancel the Quran burning.
Umm .. hell no! When did those two events become related? And I already smell the media trying to bridge the gap when there is none.
The Quran burning has nothing to do with the Ground Zero mosque! The situation in New York has been brewing for quite a while and Jones never related the two events. But, in all actuality, he is PIMPING the Quran controversy to get what he and other radical Christians want out of the mosque situation. NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN.
Against others opinions, I’m glad that high-level government officials [Gates] actually spoke with Jones. This would have been (and still may be) a national security issue of major proportions. We’ve got troops, contractors, civilians, tourists, and citizens here at home potentially in harm’s way of attacks on a regular day. Why are we going to give people yet another reason to lash out?
Damn! Can we all just get along?!
