President Obama pulled his “Trump” card on Celebrity Apprentice and The Donald this evening.
The White House (via NBC) interrupted the show around 10:45 p.m. ET as news broke that the United States KILLED the world’s most wanted terrorist, Osama bin Laden. The weight of this news is huge for the United States as two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were launched as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that bin Laden masterminded.
President Obama said succinctly as the world watched and he broke the news:
“On night’s like this one, we can say to those families who have lost loved ones to Al Qaeda’s terror – JUSTICE HAS BEEN DONE.”
He explained that the U.S. recently got intelligence about bin Laden’s whereabouts last week. Today, the president authorized a strike on the area where bin Laden was located. U.S. special forces killed him and took control of his body.
The pundits are already working overtime to sort through what this means for Americans. We have built an entire national security strategy to be built around his actions. We travel differently because of him. For almost a whole generation, we have unfairly discriminated against Muslims in the U.S. out of ignorance. Expect to hear a lot of different theories about the impact and fallout from this news. This is major news for the American people, this presidency, and the long-ass wars we have been fighting.
For right now, though, let’s focus on something else. To all of the people who lost their lives in the attacks 9 years, 7 months, and 20 days ago … WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!! This one is for you.
