The Democratic National Convention Will Be Held In….

| On 01, Feb 2011

The skyline of Charlotte, North Carolina.

First lady Michelle Obama announced today in an email to key Democrats that North Carolina’s largest city would be the host of the convention next year. They beat out Cleveland, Minneapolis and St. Louis to host the event after a very lengthy waiting game from the Democratic Party.

I think Charlotte is a great choice for the convention. I’ve visited the city a few times and it’s easy to navigate. I’m a fan of their “uptown” area, known as downtown in most cities. It seemed clean(er) and new(er) than a lot of other places. It’s also an “up and coming” city that has received a lot of good press in the past few years.

The biggest reason I’m happy is that I’m making my best effort to ATTEND the convention. Charlotte is the only city that’s within decent driving distance. Score! So, now I can save some money!!

For personal reasons, Cleveland would have been my second choice. It seemed from reports that Minneapolis didn’t have a chance since they hosted the Republican National Convention in 2008. St. Louis seemed to be the second front-runner, per a story that ran in Politico in mid-December. But, I guess it wasn’t meant to be for them.

For everyone that plans to attend the DNC 2012 in Charlotte … SEE YOU THERE!
