MSNBC star and progressive radio talker Ed Schultz is in some hot water this week over comments he made about his conservative media competition, Laura Ingraham.
On Tuesday, Schultz leveled a verbal attack against Ingraham for her hypocrisy toward President Obama. She was upset on her show that President Obama was over in Ireland drinking beer while Joplin, Missouri suffered from a devastating EF-5 tornado that killed 125 people. Schultz responded by calling her a “right wing slut” … further adding emphasis of “talk slut” … because when President Reagan went overseas and drank beer she praised him.
Schultz has apologized for his comments and voluntarily taken one week of unpaid leave as MSNBC suspended him. It’s pretty standard that this will happen in today’s rapid-response media environment. I’m sure he may take the week off of the radio show as well, since he keeps a stable of competent hosts as his fill-ins.
I am a fan of Ed Schultz’s radio show and I agree with his sentiments about Laura Ingraham’s hypocrisy. But YES, he was wrong calling Ingraham out of her name on the air. He should have been suspended. I know he is passionate about the liberals, but he has earned a reputation (even before this week) of being hot-headed. Calm down Big Eddie!
