Federal Employees Should Dust Off Their Resumes ASAP

If you are a federal employee and you’re reading this post, you’ve been fairly warned that the new Republican leadership in the House could give a damn about your job security.
Today, the Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) said (in so many words) that his priority is cutting the deficit by reducing discretionary spending. As a result, he doesn’t care about cutting funds to federal agencies that employ people. If those people get laid off, then so be it. It’s all about deficit-reduction.
Boehner claims that 200,000 jobs to the federal government have been added under President Obama. That’s a damn lie! The figure is about 20,000 people higher than President Bush had working in government in 2002.
So, where are the other 180,000 mystery federal employees Johnny?
I saw the House Speaker on Meet the Press on Sunday and he’s on this whole “America is broke..” song and dance. Yes, we are way out of our financial lanes at this point as a nation. He refuses, though, to make cuts to Medicare and Social Security or the military – all of which take up huge portions of the budget.
I still wonder where was the fiscal discipline when we launched these two pre-emptive wars that we couldn’t pay for? Where was the outrage? Now, the federal employees are the scapegoats. Their W-2’s are the sacrificial lambs for war and tax-cut loving Republicans.
If you work for the feds, keep your resumes updated and your black power suit and work pumps (not stilettos) on deck!!
