FOX “Hacker” Tweets FALSE Obama Assassination Story

| On 04, Jul 2011

The “hackers” we have to deal with these days are getting out of hand. First it was Rep. Anthony Weiner, which was all a lie, and now it’s FOX News.

Early Monday morning, tweets were sent out from FOX’s @FoxNewsPolitics account on Twitter with the BLATANT LIE announcing that President Obama had been assassinated at a campaign stop in Iowa around midnight. Of course, that is NOT true as the president was not even in Iowa nor campaigning on Monday.

The false tweets seem to be the work of a “hacker,” though FOX was VERY slow to remove the posts. By the time I saw them on my phone at 11:00 a.m. ET, they had supposedly been up for more than eight hours. (The above images are the actual screen captures from FOX’s Twitter feed).

FOX News issued a statement condemning and responding to the hack. They had the following to say:

“’s Twitter feed for political news, FoxNewspolitics, was hacked early Monday morning.

Hackers sent out several malicious and false tweets claiming that President Obama had been assassinated. Those reports are incorrect, of course, and the president is spending the July 4 holiday with his family.

The hacking is being investigated, and regrets any distress the false tweets may have created.”

This incident smokes what little shred of credibility FOX had as a news organization. One of my Twitter followers mentioned that it is a good thing the network keeps its blatant hate of the president in the forefront. Better to know exactly who your enemies are than to guess.

There is a good possibility that the account could have been hacked. The sad part is we have come to expect so much hate-speech from FOX that assassination rumors sound like the network’s run-of-the-mill news cycle.
