GOP Forces Date Change for Pres. Obama’s Jobs Speech

Sometimes I wonder who is really running the government in Washington, D.C. It surely isn’t the American people.
President Obama’s request to address a joint session of Congress next Wednesday about his jobs plan was denied by House Speaker John Boehner on Wednesday. Why? Well, Boehner didn’t want Obama’s speech to bump up against the NBC/Politico GOP debate being held on the same evening.
So, in all “fairness” to his conservative brethren, he told the president to pick another day. There was some back and forth between the White House and Boehner, but they finally came to an agreement.
You read correctly. Speaker Boehner forced the president to hold on his jobs plan so you can watch sub-par Republican candidates duke it out on national TV.
The NEW date for the president’s jobs address is Thursday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
FYI: The new date conflicts with Thursday night football, but you’re just going to have to get over it.
Update: The post has been edited to reflect the 7:00 p.m. ET start time of the jobs address on September 8.
