Ohio’s “Joe the Plumber” to Run for Congress
Matt | On 11, Oct 2011
Since we have relived the dark days of 2008 lately, it’s only right to bring Joe the Plumber back in the conversation.
Remember Sarah Palin’s little obsession who started out as a straw man and (kinda) became a national sensation? He is the one who debated with President Obama about taxes on the campaign trail in 2008.
Well, he’s running for Congress in Ohio, so expect to hear a little more about him during next year’s election season.
Joe Wurzelbacher will challenge Democratic incumbent Marcy Kaptur in Ohio’s 9th Congressional district. The area includes much of the immediate Toledo area and points east. He will run as a Republican.
This isn’t Wurzelbacher’s first time in public office. In May 2010, he was elected to the Republican Party Central Committee in Lucas County, Ohio. In that role, he worked with a group of people who handled the legwork to get Republicans elected in the area.
I’m all for Joe-Joe exercising his right to give a voice to the people of his district. But, to me, he still seems like a caricature from the 2008 election. I can’t really take him seriously. Neither can I see the heavily-Democratic 9th district voters giving him a chance. Kaptur won her district by an almost 60-40 margin last year.
