It has been a tough fight for Rep. Anthony Weiner since the scandal broke surrounding pictures of his covered bulge on Twitter. But, like the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end.”
Sources in D.C. are saying that the congressman will step down today (Thursday). This will put a public end to the major distraction that this scandal has caused for him, his family, and other members of Congress. In addition to his duties in the House, he has a pregnant wife at home and the obvious strain this situation puts on a marriage.
Weiner was linked to at least six different women online, sending them a variety of half-naked and suggestive pictures. The relationships seem only virtual at this point. (See some of our older semi-NSFW posts here and here to jog your memory of Weiner’s camera skills).
Once Rep. Weiner officially steps down, it will be up to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to hold a special election to find a replacement.
In the end, the mounting pressure from Congress was mightier than Rep. Weiner’s penis. lol.. I hate to see him go because he really was a great legislator and a realist that the Democratic Party needed.
My hope is that people will get off this morality high-horse after awhile and stop putting public figures on pedestals greater than ourselves. If truth be told, you can fire half of Congress by EOD today because they are all hiding SOMETHING. They just haven’t been caught yet.
UPDATE: In a Thursday afternoon press conference in Brooklyn, Rep. Weiner officially resigned his post as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
