Two House Members Miss Official Swearing In Ceremony

Picture it. You’re elected to the highest lawmaking body in the United States. Your swearing-in is all over national media. But, you’re out in the hallway effin’ around with supporters and MISS the Constitutionally-required ceremony.
Umm yeah, you go in today’s “WTF Moments” category!! Who does that?!
Well, it seems that two of the 435 House members did . Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Tx.) and Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) were not included in Wednesday’s official swearing-in along with all of their colleagues. They were with Fitzpatrick supporters outside in the Capitol Visitor Center.
When the pair saw the ceremony starting in the hallway, they simply turned to the TV and raised their right hand to take the oath, as seen by this photo. Well, that doesn’t count because it wasn’t on the floor of the House. So, later in the day they both had to take their oaths in a separate ceremony to ensure validity.
The snafu made all of Sessions’s votes invalid that he took later that day as a member of the Rules committee. Now Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) has to work with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to see if she’ll agree to making the votes valid retroactively.
See, the shit is starting already…
