Communications Director for Mayor Cory Booker Resigns Post-“Meet the Press”

Heads are beginning to roll in City Hall in Newark, New Jersey.
In the wake of Mayor Cory Booker’s “gaffe” on “Meet The Press” on May 20, his communications director is walking out the door.
Anne Torres, 29, is resigning her post effective immediately after six years on the mayor’s team. Officials in the mayor’s administration are saying that Torres left on her own and cited her long record of service with them. Torres, however, did briefly mention to The Star-Ledger on Tuesday that she and Booker don’t see eye-to-eye on how “communications should be run.”
Whatever the real reason for Torres leaving, it is always going to look like she left because of the “Meet the Press” issue. I definitely believe the issue had something to do with her departure. People are saying that Booker’s team is making Torres the scapegoat for what happened, even though he received extensive talking points from the Obama team about what to say on the show.
The confusing part to me is how The Star-Ledger says that Torres was not consulted about the remarks on “Meet the Press.” Nor was she consulted about the follow-up clip on YouTube where Booker tried to smooth over his mistake.
If she was not consulted in either instance, then is it fair to make her the scapegoat?
Whatever the case may be, Torres is here to let you know if you need her anytime soon … she’ll be on a long vacation! She said she looks forward to spending more time with her 8-year-old daughter. I am NOT mad at that!
