Many people outside of politics may not even know his name, but Andrew Breitbart was one of the most recognizable names in right-wing blogging.

The Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed that Breitbart passed away from natural causes on Thursday morning at UCLA Medical Center. He was only 43 years old.

One story that may ring a bell with people is the controversy surrounding Shirley Sherrod, the former Georgia State Rural Director for the USDA. Back in 2010, Breitbart’s website, BigGovernment.com, released an edited video taken out of context to make Sherrod look as though she were being racist to white farmers. The video went viral and eventually cost Sherrod her job. She was offered her position back by the Secretary of Agriculture when the full video clearly showed no bias.

Along with the Sherrod story, Breitbart’s website found itself at the center of several other high-profile media storms. The site broke the Anthony Weiner photo scandal story in 2011.

Still, our condolences go out to Breitbart’s family and friends. That’s a very young age to pass away. Wow.
