Former House member Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona is keeping busy these days.
She recently made an appearance in Tucson at a “Get out the vote” concert on behalf of Ron Barber, her former aide who is now running for the seat she left earlier this year.
Giffords is staying true to her word that she would still focus on issues and people that mattered to her despite leaving the halls of Congress.
Giffords left public office in January to focus more on her recovery and her future. She was shot in the head at point blank range on January 8, 2011 while at a “Congress On Your Corner” event in her district. Her comeback from near fatal injuries has been well-documented and a source of inspiration for many.
Barber was injured in the attack as well.
Looking forward, Barber will face Republican Jesse Kelly in the June 12 special election to fill the seat that Giffords left. The race is expected to be very tight with only a couple hundred votes separating the winner and loser. Kelly ran against Giffords in 2010 and lost.
