Mitt Romney Shows Tact and Pulls Negative Santorum Ads

Mitt Romney, clearly the frontrunner in the GOP race for president, has actually received a compliment from me this morning. Write it down.

In Pennsylvania, he pulled his negative advertising against second-place native son Rick Santorum out of respect for his family. Last week, the Santorums had to place their youngest daughter, Bella, in the hospital for an unknown illness. Santorum canceled all official campaign events in the wake of her hospitalization.

The three-year-old suffers from a genetic disorder known as Trisomy 18, which usually claims the lives of 90 percent of children before or during delivery. Bella has been hospitalized several times since her birth.

The move was an extremely smart on the part of Romney and his team. Imagine the Santorum family at the hospital and seeing negative ads about their dad and husband on the TV. That wouldn’t sit well, especially considering how much name recognition he has as a former U.S. senator in Pennsylvania.

I have to give Romney points for good sportsmanship and deference to Santorum’s delicate family situation in this case. There may be a shred of decency left in some of these candidates.

What do you think of Mitt Romney’s decision to pull all negative advertising against Rick Santorum due to his current family situation?

Thanks to Foolocracy for the heads-up on the story.
