Mitt Romney Won Florida Because Newt Gingrich Is So Bitter

During our hiatus this week to focus on other work deadlines, the Florida primary happened on Tuesday, January 31.
In short, Mitt Romney gutted and hung Newt Gingrich out to dry at the polls in Florida. A few reasons can explain such a massive butt-whipping after Newt just won South Carolina 10 days earlier. Florida is a state that relies heavily on early voting. They also have a much more diverse voter base than South Carolina. Mitt had also been killing Newt with negative ads in Florida. We all know that money (many times) equals influence in politics.
The strongest point I feel that underscored Newt’s losing fate was his debate performance on January 26. He showed up to the contest in Jacksonville looking worn-down, tired, and just not ready for battle. Meanwhile, Romney was on his A-game having hired a new debate coach and challenging Gingrich at every turn. You could see how the tide shifted between the two men.
Since he jumped in the race, Newt has struck me as a very hot or cold candidate. He’s down one week and up the next. He wins a state by a wide margin and gets crushed the next. He’s the front-runner, then he is the has-been. Not all of these descriptions are his fault.
But, how he has or hasn’t conducted himself throughout it says a lot. His people skills and ability to “play the game” with other candidates just is not there. If you disagree with him, he gets ornery. If you bring up his ex-wife and the rumors of an open relationship request he will rip your head off. He talks above people like they aren’t even there. I just don’t get it.
February is going to be a busy month with a lot of election contests. Things are not going to get easier for any of the candidates. Newt Gingrich should try perking up his spirit a little and start connecting with voters QUICKLY!
The Nevada caucuses are on Saturday, February 4. We will see how the voters treat him. lol…
