Last Friday, President Obama spoke to the public for the first time since his big election win one week ago.
In brief remarks from the White House, the president was joined by Vice President Joe Biden and others to talk about the economic way forward. Obama talked about how the economy was the pressing issue on the minds of many voters in this year’s election.
He also discussed the so-called “fiscal cliff” of rising taxes if Congress doesn’t act to develop solutions to address the growing deficit. He urged Congress to extend tax cuts for middle class families and come up with new ways to bring in revenue to the government.
The main theme was centered on compromise and working across party lines to address these issues. I expect to see the president going directly to the American people like this much more in his second term.
