This is such a nice picture of President Obama greeting Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) just moments before the State of the Union speech.

The president hugged Giffords like she was an old friend, in a caring way that made many people take note. It showed a lot of personality in the president.

Giffords is recovering from a serious brain injury after she was shot at point blank range during her “Congress On Your Corner” event in Tucson, Arizona in January 2011. The representative announced her resignation from the House of Representatives this past week — 12 months after the devastating attack. She will continue to focus on her recovery.

Meanwhile, Giffords can take comfort in the fact that she was treated like a rockstar all the way through her last event as a Congresswoman!

I've NEVER seen any President show such personal affection towards ANYONE! This is a beautiful moment in time. So happy for Gabby to be on the road to recovery!
