Rappers Are Rush Limbaugh’s Excuse for “Slut” Outburst

| On 06, Mar 2012

It's the "rappers" fault, y'all! Rush says there is a double standard at work here. (Photo credit unknown)

I’m just going to let this one sink in. I want you to weigh in on it.

Rush Limbaugh has a flimsy scapegoat for his behavior in the aftermath of calling Sandra Fluke a “slut” for her Congressional testimony about birth control pills.

Look at what the “rappers” are able to get away with, he says.

According to Rush:

“You talk about the double standard, one of the greatest illustrations of it is that rappers can practically say anything they want about women, and it’s called art,” he said. [SOURCE]

In my opinion, the difference between Limbaugh and your average rapper is the size of the platform. I’m not excusing any man that would knowingly degrade a woman. However, Rush reaches millions of people five days a week. He also has the watchful eye of the media 24/7. Many rappers are lucky if they can reach a million people in two lifetimes.

And frankly, Rush’s point is a deflection from the reality. Yes, rappers are guilty of name-calling. It still doesn’t erase what came out of Rush’s mouth. He never referenced rappers in his tirade. So, why bring them into the equation now?
