Rick Santorum Really Won the Iowa Caucuses in Updated Results

| On 22, Jan 2012

Rick Santorum gives us a half-smirk because the state of Iowa was so freaking late in declaring him the winner of the Iowa caucuses. He must be pissed about the lost momentum. (Photo credit unknown)

As you get your fix of everything related to 2012 politics, I wanted to share a footnote with you from the state of Iowa.

Rick Santorum really won the Iowa caucuses, not Mitt Romney. So, if you see us refer to Santorum as the Iowa winner, please know that we aren’t going crazy.

The Republican Party of Iowa confirmed that Rick Santorum led the race by 38 votes. The first projection had Romney leading by eight votes.

The announcement was belated news for the Santorum campaign that had since lost in New Hampshire on January 10 with a fifth place finish. Campaign officials received the updated Iowa tally on the eve of the January 21 primary in South Carolina, which didn’t do much of anything to boost Santorum’s third place finish there.

Oh well! At least Santorum can say he won at least one of the races. Now he, Romney, and Newt Gingrich each have one win under their belts heading into the January 31 Florida primary.

Santorum is looking really “vice presidential” now, if you get what I mean. He attracts the voters, but not enough of them to make an impact or even be declared the winner on time. ::sigh::
