Rick Santorum Stays Mad at Pres. Obama’s Educational Achievements

| On 26, Feb 2012

I don’t know whether to be pissed or saddened by this video.

Rick Santorum gave a campaign speech recently and attacked President Obama for one of the strangest ideas I’ve heard in a while. He directly called the Commander-In-Chief a “snob” because he encouraged “everyone” to go to college. Then the audience laughed hard.

Wait a minute.

The president encouraged young people to EDUCATE themselves and Santorum has a problem with it?

Let me say this. Rick Santorum and the GOP as a whole STAY MAD at this president for achieving feats that many of them could never. The issue is bigger than just the president encouraging people to go to school. They are pissed at the level and quality of POTUS’s academic achievements. Let’s review some quick points to add gasoline to the fire. President Obama is:

  • A graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, both Ivy League institutions. He also attended Occidental College for part of his undergraduate studies.
  • Former president of the Harvard Law Review and the first black person to achieve this feat at the university.
  • Husband to Michelle Obama, a Princeton University and Harvard Law School graduate. Again, these are both Ivy League institutions.
  • Father to two children who attend the prestigious Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. They are both encouraged to pursue college educations.

If I were uncomfortable with my achievements or appealing to a voter base that is, I would be mad too. That’s exactly what I see happening here. It’s clear that President Obama’s success pisses some people off.

Here we see “the soft bigotry of low expectations” at work. That phrase was coined in 2004 by President Bush, who also has two Ivy League degrees. Bush attended Yale University and Harvard Business School.

Education, as many of us know, is one of the true gateways to a better life. I’m not saying it’s a panacea or a get-rich-quick scheme. But no one can tell me that today’s young people are learning in so much excess that a two or four-year college education would add NOTHING to their lives. At least striving for it would teach some much-needed goal-setting around these parts.

My message to Rick Santorum is …. “STAY MAD RICKY!!!” I’ll be telling everyone I know to be a “snob” like President Obama & Co.

Are you offended at Rick Santorum’s comments that President Obama is a “snob” for encouraging education?

Or, is Santorum correct?
