Rush Limbaugh Loses Advertisers In “Slut” Controversy

Controversy has brewed over the past few days with ultra-conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh his comments on the nation’s birth control debate.

Sandra Fluke, a 30-year-old Georgetown University law student, testified on Capitol Hill last week about birth control coverage on insurance plans. She is in favor of religiously-affiliated institutions (like Georgetown) paying for coverage even though many faith-based groups are against it.

When Limbaugh got wind of those comments, he went in for the kill on his February 29 show. He said Fluke’s testimony meant that she was ok with religious institutions paying for her sexual behaviors. Rush inferred that women only use birth control to prevent pregnancy. He took it a step further thinking they have an insatiable sex drive once they start taking the pills.

“What does it say about the college coed … who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex,” Limbaugh said about Fluke wanting her school to pay for birth control. [SOURCE]

On Thursday, Rush continued to attack Fluke on the issue. He said:

“If we’re going to have to pay for this, then we want something in return, Ms. Fluke. And that would be the videos of all this sex posted online so we can see what we’re getting for our money,” he told his national audience.

You read correctly. This drug-addicted, out-of-shape radio host called a law student a “slut” on national radio. Then he basically said he wanted to see the receipts from it. Fluke exercised her rights as an American citizen to give Congressional testimony in a debate on birth control that has been void of WOMEN and she’s easy?? I don’t get it.

Well, I’m not the only one who threw Limbaugh an immediate side-eye. The media ran with the story prompting seven of his advertisers to walk away from him as of Sunday evening.

In the wake of the comments, Fluke received a personal phone call from President Obama on Friday. Limbaugh finally apologized to Fluke on Saturday via his website.

In my opinion, it’s real half-assed if the president of the United States can call this young lady and offer his support, but Rush just issues an online statement. Limbaugh is the true definition of a coward.

But, Rush deserves what he is getting. Advertisers are backing away from him. More importantly, he is feeling the heat from Republicans because people have long said he is the de facto “spokesman” for the party. Whether or not that’s true, it has been assumed. And in this fight for the White House, GOPers are trying desperately to distance themselves from Limbaugh.
