GABBY GIFFORDS’ TESTIMONY:
Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords of Arizona is not taking her time away from the spotlight lightly.
On Wednesday, she appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee to testify about gun violence. Giffords offered stern words and prepared for the senators about why gun control is so important.
Her statement was short and to the point. At one moment, she told the committee to “be courageous.”
Giffords was the victim of gunshot wound to the head in January 2011 during her tenure in the House of Representatives. A gunman shot her and several others at an event for her constituents in Tucson, Arizona. Six people were left dead in the rampage.
Giffords’ husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, also testified before the Senate committee. He went in-depth about the stance he and his wife take on gun ownership and violence. Like her, he urged Congress to act immediately to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of the wrong people.
