George W. Bush Shows Some Softening On Gay Marriage

I’m still shocked after watching this video.
Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, recently sat down with ABC’s Jonathan Karl to talk about a few issues.
One of the glaring topics was Mr. Bush’s seemingly changing view on gay marriage. On his trip to Africa this month, he basically said that he doesn’t have room to judge another person’s lifestyle. He didn’t come out in support of same-sex marriage. But, you can clearly read between the lines on his current stance. His insistence that he is “out of politics” is the red flag for me that things have changed. It’s Bush’s favorite go-to phrase when he wants to avoid a question.
Let’s remember that this is the same man who mounted an entire re-election campaign in 2004 based on fear and social issues. His hardline position on gay marriage was even at odds with that of Vice President Dick Cheney, who has an openly-gay daughter. For example, Bush pimped black church leaders into supporting his rigid view on gay marriage by waving the carrot of faith-based initiative money in their greedy faces. When the chips were down and he needed to win, he knew he could play his trump card on social issues with gullible and homophobic Americans.
Now that he is “out of politics,” he wants to stop throwing stones at those he stepped on to win re-election? This is such a fraudulent, but not surprising, move!
