Congress is hitting all kinds of new lows as we tip into 2013.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) let his mouth get the best of him in an off-camera exchange last Friday with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada). The two had been hassling over the best plan of action around the fiscal cliff negotiations.

Boehner reportedly approached Reid outside the Oval Office and told him, “Go f*ck yourself!”

Like anyone in a professional setting, Reid was caught off guard. After asking for specifics about why he said it, Boehner is reported to have repeated the comment. The Speaker then went back to his office and shared his statement with others.

Wow … now THAT’S setting a great example for leadership, Speaker Boehner!

It’s unclear what exactly prompted the comment, but I’m sure that Boehner had been holding on to that read for quite a while. It totally does not surprise me.

I can’t wait for the American people to tell Boehner the same thing in regards to his job and leadership. I’ll happily chime in on that verbal slugfest!
