Beyoncé and Jay-Z have served their time in the political light for the time being.

The U.S. Treasury Department has done its homework and found that the musical power couple did indeed have a government-issued license to visit Cuba earlier this month. So, the couple’s excursion was not technically a “wedding anniversary trip,” but rather an “educational” people-to-people exchange with Cubans, which is permissible by law. It just happened to fall at the same time as their wedding anniversary. Mmmhmm .. lol..

A letter from the Treasury Department responding to an inquiry from Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart said the following:

It is our understanding that the travelers in question traveled to Cuba pursuant to an educational exchange trip organized by a group authorized by OFAC to sponsor and organize programs to promote people-to-people contact in Cuba,” said Alastair M. Fitzpayne, the Treasury Department’s Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs. [SOURCE]

Even with the official Treasury Department response, Ros-Lehtinen wasn’t sold on what she felt was the real reason behind the couple’s trip.

“That was a wedding anniversary vacation that was not even disguised as a cultural program,” she commented.

HA HA HA!!! Well damn. She is so mad at the outcome.

Controversy seems to pop up anywhere Beyoncé’s name is mentioned. However, contrary to some of her fans’ opinions, I believe the witch hunt was more political than anti-Beyoncé in nature. Reps. Ros-Lehtinen and Diaz-Balart, both Republicans from south Florida, started all the mess by accusing the couple of supporting Cuba’s Communist regime with their visit. The GOP is hellbent on tying anything to President Obama and making a mockery of the legitimate problems that America is facing.

Think about it. In the same week as this controversy about Beyoncé and Jay-Z, there were Republican members of the Senate who vowed not to even allow a vote on stricter gun control issues. We just suffered one of the worst school shootings in history just four months ago in Newtown, Connecticut. And Congressional representatives are worried about Beyoncé’s personal travel? Bye!

This Cuban visit situation served to highlight just how out-of-focus our elected representatives can be. They will use anyone they can as a scapegoat not to have to deal with real issues.
