Michigan GOPer Calls Gays a “Perversion” and Seeks Higher Office

The extreme right of the Republican Party has bared its ugly face again. In simple terms, that means it’s just another average Tuesday.
In Michigan, there are some shakeups happening in their state’s Republican Party. Leadership is changing and new people are looking for position to grow the GOP influence. Michigan is no different from the national GOP party — struggling between sensible conservatives and those who would be better served in a mental institution under a straight-jacket.
Mary Helen Sears, a former member of the Michigan Senate, is being exposed for her hate-filled rant on the Schoolcraft County Republican Party’s website. Sears is one of those in the state who may actually make it to the upper ranks of the Michigan GOP. As her “star” has risen, so have questions about her beliefs and legitimacy to be a leader in the party. In short, Sears made comments on the site in March 2013 about the “perversion” she feels the GOP is suffering at the hands of homosexuals.
Here’s a snippet of what Sears had to say:
“How then can we as Christians stay in a party that adopts Homosexuality into the fabric of the tent. I say we cannot. Homosexuals make up less than one percent of the total population. They must prey on our children to increase their numbers. Why then, would we, as a party, entertain this perversion? We as a party should be purging this perversion and send them to a party with a much bigger tent.” [SOURCE]
Of course, the only way Sears feels we can right these ‘wrongs’ is to put people like her in more positions of power in Michigan politics. She is being considered at some level for the state GOP’s co-chair position. How scary!
To read the detail and clear misguided philosophies from which she operates was mind-blowing and sad, if nothing else. Sears also had strong opinions about evolution and a supposed lack of Christianity in schools.
I am confused that Sears could devoted so much energy to highlighting other groups of people but not her own ideas to move her party forward. Also, why all the hate? It definitely does not read in a “Christ-like” fashion to me.
