Aretha and Condi Share Stage Time

I did a double-take when I read this one…
The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice performed together on Tuesday night in Philadelphia to raise money for inner-city music education. The selections were not Franklin’s usual soul anthems, but mostly classical music. Rice, a Republican and a classically-trained pianist, was up for the challenge in joining Big ‘Reefa, a Democrat straight outta Detroit.
Franklin channeled her Leontyne Price and sang arias. Condi tapped her inner Le-Le (Alicia) Keys and tickled the ivories. It may not have been the match I would have thought of, but it was for a great cause. It also showed diverse sides of both women.

Sidenote: The performance reminded me that Condi has NOT let go of the helmet-flip hairdo’ she rocked in the White House and State Department. And Ms. Franklin is still rockin’ spaghetti-strapped dresses that someone half her size also needs to leave on the rack! Why are powerful women afraid to take fashion hints?! ::smh::
Here are some short clips of the performance in a full segment on Good Morning America:
